– (18181883) was a German philosopher, political economist, historian, political theorist, sociologist, communist and revolutionary, whose ideas are credited as the foundation of modern communism. Together with German social scientist and philosopher Friedrich Engels (1820 – 1895) they produced The Communist Manifesto (1848). Various aspects of Marxist theory have been criticized.
