Rhine
– (German: Rhein) is one of the longest and most important rivers in Europe, at 1,320 km (820 mi). The many castles and prehistoric fortifications along the Rhine testify to its importance as a waterway. Hundreds of years ago, river traffic could be stopped at these locations, usually for the purpose of collecting tolls, by the state that controlled that portion of the river. Today especially the Middle Rhine is known as "the Romantic Rhine". It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (2002) and one of germany's most visited tourist attractions with more than 40 castles and fortresses from the Middle Ages and many quaint and lovely country villages.

Reunification
– The German reunification took place on 3 October 1990, when the five re-established states of the German Democratic Republic (GDR / East Germany) joined the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG / West Germany). The German reunification started in the summer of 1989, when Hungary decided to dismantle its portion of the Iron Curtain and open the borders, causing an exodus of thousands of East Germans going to West Germany via Hungary. Most important date was 9 November 1989, known as the fall of Berlin Wall.
