World Heritage Site – is a place of either cultural or physical significance and it is on the list that is maintained by the international World Heritage Programme administered by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. In Germany you'll find 33 World Heritage Sites with a range from Aachen Cathedral (the oldest cathedral in northern Europe) to Zeche Zollverein (1847-1993; see picture), a coal mine industrial complex in Essen.
