15.12.09 The Board of the German Shuffleboard Association e.V. has been re-elected for another two years during the Annual General Meeting last weekend. President Dieter Hussmann, General Secretary José da Silva Pires and Treasurer Birgitt Hussmann...
... are now in their third term of office. Ever since its foundation they steer the affairs of the Association and it is their wish to see a sound and solid growth of the German Shuffleboard community. The voting members at the AGM honored the Board's good job with an unanimous re-election of all three officers. The three Board members wish to thank all German members for their help and support. Besides the periodic elections of the Board of Directors, the members had to vote for new auditors. Lore Wuellner and Herbert Beinlich have been elcted into that office for the next two years. The elections were followed by the Board's report about achievements, current projects and future plans. In International Shuffleboard Germany participated in the 1st Single World Championships in Zephyrhills, Florida. The Germans sent 6 Men and 4 Women to the United States and despite the seemingly overwhelming favorites from North America they all returned with good success. Best Germans were Sebastian Runge from Meerbusch (13) in the Men's and Lore Wuellner from Langenselbold (23) in the Women's division. In German Shuffleboard the first ever Wintercup was held in February followed by two split SpeedShuffleboard tournaments. In June the 3rd Meerbusch Open was traditionally played as a Draw Doubles tournament. Once again, the highlight of German Shuffleboard was the annual German Championships in November. On top of those nationwide tournaments a few local and regional ones were played, like the Under 20 Cup and the Ladies' Cup. If you have a closer look at the various categories, you will realize that the top of German Shuffleboard meanwhile is a highly competitive place. President Hussmann once again congratulated Sebastian Runge, who returned to the top of the German ranking after a few months having a flimsy lead over Torben Hussmann. Young Torben headed the Ranking by winning the Wintercup and one SpeedShuffleboard tournament for some time during the year and this helped him to defend his title as Shuffler Of The Year. Although being only 14 years of age, he is the first player in the short history of German Shuffleboard to defend this title. Particular attention has to be paid for the German Champion 2009, Birgitt Hussmann. She proved that Shuffleboard is not dominated by Men. The first female Champion proved the Board's decision right, not to build a Men's and a Women's division but to let everyone compete together. Apart from the competitive Shuffling, Promotion of Shuffleboard has taken up a good share of the work. The appearance in Germany's biggest Game Show with more than 3 million viewers was a very special coup. The reactions to that TV-Show and even more the reactions of the TV executives resulted in the participation in the follow up project "Schlag den Kumpel" starting in January next year in Cologne. Many local presentations were held by the Board, resulting in new venues for Shuffleboard like in the state of Brandenburg and Schleswig-Holstein. Another new venue will follow soon in the Bowling and Event Center "Skyline" in the state of NRW. One of the targets for 2010 is to have Shuffleboard facilities in all states of Germany, but the top event will be the 28th ISA Team World Cup in germany next year. The tournament will be held in Hesse's Hohenroda and the event's psoitive execution can turn into a milestone for Shuffleboard in Germany.
